Here is what Hannah had to say about the event:
When one of my close friends from college asked me to plan their son’s first birthday party, I knew I wanted it to be extra special. The theme they picked was Dr. Suess – Oh the places you’ll go. As someone without kids, I knew, the only way to make this party happen was for me to buy and read the actual book. Once I read the first page, I was completely hooked and all of these ideas just started flowing in my head. From the mix of fun bright colors, to hot air balloons, and to elephants, I knew I wanted to incorporate all of these little details into the party.
My main focus was the head table which I knew was going to be the main focal point of the party since the cake and all of the desserts and props will be there, and a great place for a photo opp for my friends & their son too. The table consisted of a beautiful cake made by Kakes by Krisota with hanging clouds and hot air balloons both on the backdrop as well as the table. The custom cookies and cakepop were made by Jennifer Choi Desserts. I filled two large vases with poly fil to give it the cloud effect and added manzanita branches with hanging hot air balloon and clouds. If you read the book, you’ll know which page this idea sparked from. I also made paper mache hot air balloons to use as a propr for the table. I filled the basket of the hot air balloon with colorful flowers!
I made two different centerpieces, one with the hot air balloon and flowers and the other with a colorful painted mason jar with flowers. I made sure to give the black hand sketched look like it did in the book.
