Here is what Valerie had to say about the events:
My sweet girl, Reese, was turning SIX and since her birthday is in the heart of the winter (in snowy Chicago) we decided upon a precious and girly ice skating theme. I enlisted the graphic design assistance of my talented friend, Beth Kruse Custom Creations, to create uniquely sweet and somewhat vintage feeling printables.
We sent invitations welcoming the group of little ladies over to our house for lunch, games and dessert and then asked for parents to pick up their kids and join us for a trip to the ice skating rink.
As girls entered our house, they were greeted by the custom ice cake piñata that was hung from our second floor railing. It coordinated perfectly with our girly vibe and provided some active FUN later in our party.
We had the girls eat in our dining room and added an extra element of fun within that room by creating a “MILK BAR” complete with chocolate milk, vanilla milk and chocolate milk kept cold in REAL SNOW; certainly one of the perks of living in Chicago in the winter. Each place setting at our dining table was appointed with a sweet birthday hat for each girl to wear while having lunch, a fun party cup and straw and a dedicated place setting to avoid any seating squabbles.
Food was kept simple and kid-friendly – buttered noodles, chicken tenders, fruit cups and carrots and dip cups. The Moms (there were a few of us) delivered the food to the kids to keep the flow moving and while allowing the girls to stay seated.
Our desserts were pretty fabulous. Our cake featured a small fondant set of ice skates and was surrounded by sparkly silver pom poms. Ice skate cake pops were arranged on mirrors to mimic ice. Mitten cake pops were served atop a blanket of “snow”. Amazing boutique cookies by the always impeccable NatSweets were like little pieces of edible art.
For activities, we created an Ice Skating backdrop poster that included two different colored snowflakes. We separated the girls into two teams and made a relay race of sorts. Each girl was instructed to carry cotton balls on a spoon up to their designated color of snowflake until all of the snowflakes were covered in cotton balls. It was fun!
Next up, we made ice skate templates and attached to a hard canvas and let the girls “bling out” their skates with pom poms, rhinestones and markers. We let the glue dry for the rest of the party and the girls got to take these home with them later.
Our last activity was the piñata, which as we know…is always a crowd pleaser.
Upon leaving, each girl was given a personalized scarf, hat and mittens to wear while we ice skated later. The girls were over the moon excited to all be matching. It was pretty precious.
It was a FABULOUS party and just a GREAT way to ring in the precious age of SIX!
